Impregnation is effective finishing treatment of multi-porosity aluminum die castings. In large volume production, resin impregnation can seal the pin-hole and porous areas on the suface, provide a more consistent surface for subsequent finishing processes and allow versatile surface finishings, such as plating, electroless and painting and powder-coating, and enhannce the cast parts durability and aethetics appearance. The process can improve surface integrity, coating consistency, corrosion resistance, and the overall appearance and durability of the finished cast parts, targets ideal surface roughness level. Today, I will discribe about the aluminum die castings impregnation.
What Is Thermal Or Vaccum-assisted Resin Impregnation ?
Thermal or vaccum-assisted resin impregnation is a sealing process to fill and seal the voids and pin-holes with thermal melting resin and enhance the metal part structure and improvement of the surface. Especially multi-porous aluminum and magnesium die casting, and allow further smooth surface roughness, and easily accept chrome-plating, nickel-plating and electrophoresis. The process is different from thermal dipping, which covering the surface of part, and forms a layer of thicker coating.
Advantages Of Aluminum Die Casting Impregnation
The thermal or vaccum-assisted resin can seal and fill internal micro-voids and surface porosity within aluminum die castings well permanently, and improve the adhension of the metal part. Remain accurate dimension standard, and improve the integrity of the casting, and prevent corrosion of salt and acid substance penetration from harsh environment.
- Seals Surface Porosity and Hidden Internal leak pathes of Die Castings
- Increasely integration of the die castings
- Remain Dimensional Accuracy
- Improved Surface Roughness And Smoothness
- Preventive corrosion Substance Penetration From Harsh Environments.
How The Aluminum Die Castings Impregnation Works
These rough aluminum casting parts are deburred and removing the oil ,dirt and contaminants on the surface of them, and absorb them into the thermal resin vessel and let the thermal resin seal the leakage path and voids and improve the structure and surface finish of the parts, and finish the vaccum assisted impregnation.
- Pre-Clearing: Deburred and removing the oil, dirt and contaminants on the surface of die casting parts, and dries them normally.
- Heating And melting the Fine Resin: Heating and reducing the resin viscosity, and filling and sealing the fine porosity on the surface of the cast parts.
- Put The Multi-Porous Die Casting Into Thermal Resin Vessel: Falling these rough die casting parts into vaccum-assisted resin vessel , and introduced into the inside of the cast parts by assisted pressure. and penetrate leakage and voids on the parts.
- Curing: When the thermal resin fill the porosity and pin-holes fully, then the resin solidifies inside the pores and seals the leakage paths.
- Washing / finishing: The casting is then rinsed, dried and, if necessary, subjected to a final cure.
Impregnation Types
There are two types of impregnation, the natural impregnation and forced compressed impregnation for multi-porous cast parts.
Thermal And Vaccum
Absorbing these cast parts into Thermal resin pool, achieve vaccum-assisted impregnation, and make thermal resin penetrate the leakage path inside the parts naturally. and escape the entripped air from the cast parts. and solid the multi-porous cast parts fully.
Thermal, Vaccum And Pressure
Under proper pressure, drive the thermal resin into the leakage path, escape the entripped air from the cast parts, and fill the porosity inside the cast parts fully, and forced and fill the thermal resin into the pinholes and voids completely. And Repeatedly actions timely until the multi-porous cast parts is sealed fully.
For high-volume aluminum die-casting production, vacuum + thermal/pressure-assisted impregnation can therefore be used when internal porosity causes pressure leakage, fluid leakage or surface finishing problems.
